Constitution
Western Virginia
International Educators
Preamble
In order to promote
cooperation in international education among educational
institutions and organizations in western Virginia this
Constitution is hereby established. The members of this
organization pledge themselves to cooperate as may appear
desirable and feasible to achieve the stated purposes of this
Constitution.
Article I – Name, Purpose,
Membership of the WVIE
A. The name of the organization
shall be the Western Virginia International Educators
(WVIE).
B. The purposes of the WVIE shall
be:

To serve as a regional
networking and support group for staff, administrators, and
faculty who work in international
education and/or promote internationalization of their campuses.

To provide regional
professional development as well as networking and training
opportunities.

To share program resources,
expertise, and ideas.

To explore ways to
collaborate.

To foster cooperation in the
field of international education in order to strengthen
international, global, and cross-cultural dimensions of
education.

To organize and support
programs and activities designed to strengthen faculty/staff
resources for international education by meeting twice a
year.

To promote cooperation in both
international student affairs and study abroad.
C. Membership in WVIE
1.
Any staff member, faculty, or
volunteer of an educational, governmental, or international
organization in the state, or the surrounding states, is
eligible to become a regular member.
2.
Others may become associate or
supporting members upon approval of the WVIE Board.
Article II – The WVIE Board
A.
Membership:
The Board shall consist of the
five officers plus up to seven additional members with
representatives from each of the following constituents:
two-year college, private college, public college, and other
representative groups of the region. The number of Board members
can vary between eight and twelve from different professional
fields.
B.
Functions:
The functions of the Board shall
include determination of policies, programs, membership, meeting
registration costs, budgets, and organizational structure.
C.
Officers of the Board:
The officers shall be a President,
Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Web Master.
D.
Meetings of the Board:
The Board shall meet at least
annually and upon the call of the President. Meetings of the
Board are open to the public.
E.
Term of Board Members
Each board member’s term will be
three years with renewable terms possible
Article III – Officers of the
Board

President:
It shall be the duty of the
President to:
1. Preside over meetings and
programs.
2.
Prepare the agenda for the Board
meetings.
3.
Provide leadership for the programs
of the WVIE.

Vice-President:
It shall be the duty of the
Vice-President to:
1. Preside at meetings and
programs of the WVIE in the absence of the
President.
2. Assist the
President in the development of programs and serve otherwise at
the request of the President.
3. Promote WVIE
membership and public relations.

Secretary:
It shall be the duty of the
Secretary to:
1. Maintain minutes, records,
and a directory of membership for the WVIE.
2. Prepare a Web WVIE
newsletter to be distributed by the Webmaster.
D. Treasurer:
It shall be the duty
of the Treasurer to:
1.
Manage the fiscal affairs of the
WVIE by maintaining bank account records and authorizing
expenditures as approved by the board.
2.
Report to the Board on the status of
WVIE funds.
E. Web Master:
It shall be the duty
of the Web Master to:
1.
Maintain an up-to-date Web page.
2.
Post useful information from
members.
F. Election of Officers
and Board Members:
1.
The Board shall be elected from the
active membership.
2.
The terms of office shall be two
years, beginning on the first day of
September. A person may be
re-elected to the same office.
3.
A nominating committee shall be
formed at the fall meeting.
4.
Election of the Board shall be at
the spring meeting or
by email ballot
5.
Officer vacancies shall be filled at
the discretion of the Board.
Article IV – Amendments and
By-Laws
A.
Amendments to this Constitution may
be proposed at meetings of the Board by any member. A two-thirds
majority vote of members of the Board is required for the
adoption of Amendments.
B. By-laws may be proposed
by any Board member and shall be adopted by a simple majority of
the Board members present.
